To provide a more efficient, agile, and secure service. Brazil will inaugurate the first air boarding with a biometric facial system for both passengers and crew members. This program, called 100% digital boarding + security, will be operating between the airports of Congonhas in São Paulo and Santos Dumont in Rio de Janeiro. This airport is considered the busiest air bridge in the country.
This project will be carried out with the cooperation of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Special Secretariat for Debureaucratization, Management, and Digital Government of the Ministry of Economy, together with Sempro, Infraero, and ANAC.
Always with the support of various technology companies, who have provided the biometric reading interfaces and software necessary to carry it out.
The implementation of this type of technology in air terminals represents a great evolution in the sector, which is constantly working to guarantee security and streamline boarding procedures, thus benefiting the millions of passengers that transit through its ports every year.
It is expected that other air terminals around the world will soon adopt this type of technology, as the elimination of manual tasks will drastically reduce the time aircraft spend on the ground and consequently reduce costs, thus increasing profits.
How will this terminal work?
Passengers will have to start the process at the check-in area using an application. The biometric validation of the citizen will be performed, comparing their data, and the photograph was taken on-site with government databases. Once the validation is completed, the passenger is ready to enter the boarding area and even the aircraft. In this way, the passenger will not have to present any identification at any additional checkpoint during transit through the airport.
Instead, for crew members to enter the security area, they must pass through a biometric reading device that collects the crew member’s facial reading and validates it against a database, thus confirming their identity.
After a long testing process, this initiative is expected to be fully operational by July, placing Brazil at the forefront of the global airline industry.
