More and more airlines are working to reduce the impact of CO2 on the environment, such as the case of Spanish airline Air Nostrum, which is teaming up with Universal Hydrogen to power its fleet of turboprops with hydrogen.
The agreement between Air Nostrum and Universal Hydrogen includes the purchase of at least 11 transformation kits. That contains the new hydrogen fuel and the replacement of the turboprop engine.
There is still no precise date, to begin with the transformation of the turboprops because it is still in development cycles and certifications.
What advantages does Universal Hydrogen offer Air Nostrum?
In addition to being a little more friendly with the environment, Universal Hydrogen offers a method where a specifically designed infrastructure will not be necessary. Also, Air Nostrum’s aircraft will be
able to refuel at any airport.
If this agreement comes to fruition, Universal Hydrogen could become the Spanish airline’s hydrogen fuel supplier.
The company expects the efficiency and performance of the fleet will be higher than it is today.
“This bold step puts European regional airlines at the forefront of taking meaningful steps to achieve true zero emissions,” says Paul Eremenko, co-founder and CEO of Universal Hydrogen.
It is undoubtedly a further step forward for the well-being of the environment.
