The drop in air traffic because of the coronavirus pandemic has been strong, and unfortunately it seems unlikely that these numbers will rise again until 2024.
The Airports Council International (ACI), presented the list of the world’s busiest airports in 2019, where they showed an increase of 3.5% in the number of passengers compared to 2018, reaching 9,100 million travelers.
On this occasion, the report also spoke about the present, announcing that the number of passengers decreased by 58.4% worldwide during the first half of 2020. International passenger traffic was the most affected, with a drop of 64,5%.
The airport industry expects a 60% reduction in revenue compared to previous projections, according to ACI.
Atlanta and Beijing airports ranked the top two in 2019, with over 110 million and 100 million passengers, respectively. But those airports experienced drops in passenger traffic of 56.6% and 73.6% in the first half of 2020.
Los Angeles International Airport rose one place in 2019, becoming the third airport with the most passenger traffic, with over 88 million travelers in 2019, this figure decreased by 58.9%.
