The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has presented the new version of the air taxi called CityAirbus Next Gen. Aircraft that seeks to mark the beginning of a new generation of inter-urban flights.
CityAirbus Next Gen will be equipped with fixed wings, a “V” shaped tail, and 8 propellers with an electric propulsion system. This is very different from the first renderings they designed for the year 2017 at that time when the proposal was presented for the first time and was designed to look like a helicopter.
The first flight of this prototype, it’s planned for the year 2023 and will have a capacity of 4 passengers and a range of 80 km. At this time, the aircraft is intended for intercity flights. One of the main issues that are being resolved is the noise emission levels. For this type of flight, they are a key factor.
CityAirbus Next Gen almost reaches a cruising speed of 120 km/h which makes it suitable for urban air mobility. While focusing on safety and sustainability.
At the moment, many companies of this type are developing various similar aircraft. However, Airbus is focussing on to develop the perfect environment to consolidate the emerging urban air mobility market.
Airbus benefits from years of research and innovation with a broad portfolio of products such as vertical take-off and landing demonstrators and sound technology development. In addition, the Vahana and CityAirbus demonstrators have jointly conducted 242 flight and ground tests totaling more than 1000 km of tests. In this way, this prototype is seeking certification, which is scheduled for 2025.
