In some countries more than 80 days are already recorded in confinement, and many changes have been generated in all this time. One of the most affected industries has been aeronautics, and we have seen how aviation structures have redefined their lines of coordination, to take a successful turn and implement recovery solutions on time.
In this sense, the States ensure preventive measures for internal flights, but to receive international passengers it is important to be even more cautious, building security measures at both the origin and destination airports.
Under this new reality, domestic routes and airlines are favored, since these would not be affected by the time each State takes to determine the security conditions of the origin and destination airports of each international route.
According to a study published by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) related to the economic impact of Covid-19:
“the estimated losses on domestic routes are less than on international routes. Even though profitability favors international routes, the recovery time is less for internal routes”.
This projection could vary according to the reality of each country and the proportion of international air transport operations versus domestic air transport. In this way, the airlines will be obliged to create a profitable domestic air route operations scheme that reactivates the cash flow in economic and operational terms.
